The Dyslexia Tutoring Project (DYSTUPR) is shifting the global perception of dyslexia and committed to the possibility that every child be given the ability to thrive.
Dyslexia is globally misunderstood.
It is not a disability, but the ability to see things differently.
DYSTUPR has three areas of expression: acceptance, awareness, and support.
It is only by self-acceptance that dyslexics are able to remove the barriers to innate intelligence.
It is creating awareness, allowing the world to understand the dyslexic population (estimated 20% of the total population) and educating the world as to the power of differentiated learning.
It is support, providing the financial resources necessary to ensure dyslexic minds are taught to read, validated, and
given the opportunity to succeed.
Dyslexics are the fish.
DYSTUPR is offering fish the opportunity to swim.
A dyslexic mind learns differently.
The typical approach used by most ELA teachers in American classrooms will not teach a dyslexic mind how to read.
Specialized learning is required.
Orton-Gillingham research based curriculum has been teaching dyslexics to read for over 40 years.
So what is the problem?
Access to tutors.
The hourly rate for tutoring is more than most parents can afford.
The specialized learning plans do not include the needed support.
Families have to use litigation to force schools to provide the needed help.
This is not sustainable nor are all children able to benefit.
My name is Ryn.
I have dyslexia.
It took 30 years for me to find the courage to share that with you, and it was not easy.
This comes from my heart.
As a mother, watching my child struggle for over six years in a classroom, judging her misunderstanding and failing to see what was actually missing. Wondering what happened to my joy-filled, easy going brilliant son, why his behavior shifted overnight and he began expressing serious mental health issues.
As a dyslexic, working hard every day to "pass" as neurotypical, wondering what would happen to me and my family if the world uncovered my disability and the secret truth- I am an idiot.
As a leader, observing the dysfunction and poorly designed systems of education, recognizing the importance of these actions on a child’s ability to thrive.
The time has come for the world to change.
A vertical leap is a shift in perception, the ability to see from a higher level of consciousness.
It is time to change our beliefs.
We, as a global community, must do better.
Every child is sacred.
Every child is worthy.
Every child must be given the ability to thrive.
For the 4.8 million dyslexic children in these United States, that requires 1:1 tutoring to teach their minds how to read.
The Dyslexia Tutoring Project Grant is designed to ensure that vision becomes a reality.
Families are able to use the money to fund private tutoring for their child, outside of the school environment.
Most education provided in America today cannot teach the average student to read.
Expecting a broken system to provide for different learners is unreasonable.
Someone who is drowning cannot be rescued by a swimmer in the water.
No more waiting.
Your child needs help now.
That is what we are here to do.
This is how all children are able to thrive.
